The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

So uhh.... there is a possibility of riots in my city today. In Plymouth. PLYMOUTH. A tiny little dot that's miles away from London.

All because some selfish greasy dickwad decided to organise a riot event on Facebook. I hate him, and everyone who says they're going to attend. How DARE they think they can ruin our beautiful city! How dare they think they're doing this for justice! They're just greedy selfish bastards... I'm so mad.

I hope they're put behind bars.

Here's the group by the way: [link] The police are onto it, apparently there are riot vans in the town centre but I'm not sure. But I feel so proud that everyone is uniting together to help protect our city from these mindless thugs.

Okay, I'm aware that what I'm saying is a somewhat unpopular opinion, but it's not the rioters that are to blame. I think it's a rather bad idea just to kill Mark Duggan point blank. I won't deny that he probably did have a weapon but from what I've researched, the IPCC concluded that there wasn't any evidence of Duggan firing the first shot. ( Of course it's not just that contributed to the riots but there's also high unemployment from what I've heard at least in the poorer neighborhoods.

I don't condone rioting, I don't support senseless violence but I think it could have been all avoided if the politicians and police were more responsible and actually did something about these poorer neighborhoods to make them better rather than be all "Respect my authoritah."

Hah, I don't think those kids are rioting because of that dude anymore. They're doing it because they can, it's selfish and violent.

Those kids were probably raised in benefit families, and now they're going about destroying the companies of the very people who have to fork out 20% of their wages every time to keep them alive. It sucks balls.

The government could do alot more to help however, I agree.

Well, true, I do have sympathies for the local business that were affected by the riots. There are selfish people out there who want to take everything they can. I can't feel sorry for those particular people.

Also, I just came across another Hetalia drawing on tumblr showing a picture of England being beaten up and saying "Stop rioting in my vital regions!" I thought this was rather... insulting because... since when are riots something to laugh about?

You're not the only one having to face a riot, if there really is...

In June of this year, it was the finals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs of the NHL (National Hockey League). Vancouver Canucks vs. Boston Bruins. All the fans of the Canucks gathered around downtown Vancouver, BC in my country to watch and see if the Canucks will win the Stanley Cup for the first time ever. Apparently...the Bruins won 4 - 0...

After the Bruins picked up the cup, hundreds of Canucks fans in downtown Vancouver began a riot. They destroyed cars, broke into stores, and stabbed people. Other Canucks fans tried to stop them, but the rioters won't listen. Downtown Vancouver was ruined by those...those...RETARDS. I am so glad the police tear gassed them and put them in prison. Thank god... The last time a riot like this happened in Vancouver all for a stupid hockey game happened back in 1994...

Seriously, this riot that might occur in your city must be stopped now.
