Little bit of a vent

Journal Entry: Mon Aug 15, 2011, 3:04 PM
*Feel free to pass over if you like" :P

Urgh. I don't know what it is about me but I really struggle to stick to one project. I really want to do a comic... like I'm absolutely dying to do one, I love doing them but I can't stick to it no matter how hard I try. Even if I plan loads (like with that Ratchet and Clank one), I just can't. It's... really frustrating.

I really want to design characters unique to me, but I just haven't got unique enough ideas. I want to do a consistent project with characters, but... bleh. And any character I do design, I just don't feel good with them.

I need to faceplant the ground.

I'm exactly the same :) basicaly, take one step at a time don't promice things on your jounals like deadlines ect and look for inspiration and try out new techniques before you do anything. *Zakeno tries EVERYTHING new to her art and it looks so nice :)

I'm trying to work on my own comic too but my probelms are: I feel that my story isn't that good, i don't know what goes where and i haven't thought of parts for the 'middle' yet (if u know what i mean) and my biggest:

ANATOMY
Clotheing folds
Shading and lighting (where they go)
and city backgrounds

They say practice, but i've been doing this since i was 13 (drawing since i was 3) and now i just turned 17 -_-'

I listen to music and try to find new songs that can help with inspirtaion :) see if these help ^^

If you would like, i can critique your work as best i can if you want to send them too me (via email) before you digitalise them :) i can also help with character design ^^

if something isnt working out, then i find its best to elave it for a while and come back to it later. Thats exactly what happened with my novel; ive been going at that on and off for two years. its now about 1/3 complete, and i am determined to eventually finish it!

I just noticed that... you tend to start a lot of new projects and I can tell that would be hard to keep up with each one :noes:

You gotta try and focus on just one at a time, or even two :) trust me, I know it from experience.
Although for some reason, I actually find it easy to just focus on one for a long period of time. Because I become so obsessed with it and enjoy working with it so much ^^;

But that is how I manage what I work with. Maybe you can work with the oldest project first and then when you get kinda bored with it or need a break, then work with another project?

I'm like that all the time. :/

Get an idea, start it, lose interest, get another idea, start another one... I have at least 20 fanfics floating around on my computer and only the one-shots are finished. :XD:

Luckily most of my art gets finished because I usually only draw small things with no backgrounds. (I still have planty of unfinished pics around though.)

You should set yourself a little goal list. Write out maybe ten small goals to accomplish in one week; even if it's just one panel of a comic. You'll feel better everytime you tick one off and you'll start enjoying things a bit more. (Trust me, I use this method all the time!)

Anyway, I hope this helps!

A kin spirit?

I know exactly what you mean. I wanted to do Dark Sentience as a Comic, but I also have about 4 other ideas for comics. I'm making yself stick to one, but in my head I've still got the other 4 rolling around, causing all sorts of havoc :XD:

yes. I understand how you feel... this is why I havent started my pokemon splice comic. why i made a group and let it die... and many other things... hell, I'm gonna lose this contest because im starting to slack off... im loosing interest again :P

but there was one thing i found that helped. I wrote on a paper. things i wanted to finish. make a small easy list every day of things you wanna finish. a sketched page of a comic? a line art? shade an unfinished picture? I did that and finished many things! just kinda do something different everyday so you dont tire of it and feel happy that your doing something you wanted to do :D

I think it's the case with many artists. I've been writing and re-writing a comic for a long while now but the art I'm planning for it is a little too difficult to make a weekly project for such a long-term commitment. It's not just you =)
