Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 6, 2012, 7:21 AM
So the other day, I read the original script of the Lion King- what it was going to be like before they changed it to what it is now. It is actually pretty horrifying haha. It contains incest and a heckuva lot of violence (Scar snaps Mufasa's neck, and it says you can actually hear the bone crack for example). Totally not kiddy friendly, but man, it would be interesting to see how it would have turned out.
One of the major flaws I saw with it though is that there were waaay too many characters, it got confusing VERY quickly, something which is bad for a film (not so bad in something like an ongoing TV series though). It was probably a good idea that they scrapped most of them.

Anyways, at the end of the script it says that Simba has a son, and the son actually speaks (although the cub is never named), so I believe that the cub at the end of Lion King is actually a boy even if it is never mentioned. I think it was always intended to be a boy. But yeah :P

Anyways, onto other stuff- I went to the zoo yesterday to do lots of life drawings. It was freezing cold, my hands were chilled up and I could barely draw but I still got loads of them done, and I also got some great rubbings of life-sized tiger and cheetah paw prints. Also, I got a giant tortoise print, a red panda and a pelican :dummy: Luckily they all fit into my A5 book.

I'm thinking of buying a year pass for the zoo- I'm a student so I only pay £37GBP and I can get in there for free as many times as I want all year. Then, I'll only have to pay for the train, and I can do life drawing from animals as much as I want :D

So that's it for now! Hope everyone has a great Easter!

The male cub at teh end of the movie is Simba's son, Kopa, He is shown in some Dinsey books. :3 However, he was scrapped. Some say that Zira killed him to get revenge for Scar, and stuff like that.

Can I ask where you got the script from? I'd love to give it a read X) Lion King is one of my favourite Disney films!

I remember reading (I think on TV Tropes) that originally, the ending battle between Simba and Scar would have Simba get thrown off of Pride Rock but survive, while Scar stayed on Pride Rock. However, Pride Rock would then catch fire and burn Scar to death, meaning that he accidentally saved Simba's life by getting him off of Pride Rock. Is that ending present in this script?

Some Lion King spin off books made after the movie also confirm that Simba was originally supposed to have a son, and he was named Kopa. [link]

I haven't reached the end of the script yet unfortunately, I skipped to the very last part to see what they said about Simba's child, but I'm still reading through it all properly haha :P
But wow, that's certainly ironic haha.
